The PLA assignment is, besides leading and securing the legal operations, all about identifying efficiencies and synergies to enable business growth and secure partnership between the different Supply Business Units.

PLA South operates offices in Milano, Bucharest, Istanbul and Karachi and geographically covers total South Europe and the Middle East. PLA South is supporting 200 suppliers and has in total approx. 400 co-workers.

The Customs Team Lead is responsible for securing the import and export processes to and from Romania and a culture of compliance that supports strategic goals within the global customs organization. Also, he/she will be responsible for developing strategic partnerships internally and externally, will act as a trusted resource within assigned region and will proactively share information with key stakeholders that support the customs operations.

In this role you will:

  • Be directly responsible to secure operational excellence in day to day operations and to continually review current ways of working. Secure alignment with regional Customs Operations Service Centre (COSC) team.
  • Secure continuous review and optimization of operations and maximize compliance. Secure efficiency of import and export activities.
  • Develop and maintain optimal setup, processes and competent resources for import and export operations.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day interface and operations with external service providers for customs and compliance activities.
  • Interact with local authorities.
  • Lead business and people together. Be directly responsible for development, as well as the regulatory and functional competence of direct report co-workers in assigned country. Secure back-up competence and competence succession.
  • Be directly responsible for local recruitment of direct reports.
  • Gather and retain documents and data necessary to generate and maintain KPI’s. Follow up performance indicators and identify improvements.
  • Support Customs Manager in activities necessary to identify and manage risk related to Customs operations and compliance.    
  • Support Customs Manager in activities necessary to obtain, maintain and renew permissions, simplifications, permits, licenses, etc. required for efficient and effective import and export operations.
  • Manage resources to support external audits, periodic projects and self-audits as assigned.

  • Solid experience and knowledge regarding Romanian import and export rules and regulations and how to apply them to business goals and daily operations. Experience in working with Romanian government authorities.
  • Tactical and operational thinking
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Proven ability to build efficiencies and compliance into operations while meeting the business needs.
  • Experience with maintaining and using KPI’s/ metrics to manage and improve operations and processes. Proficiency in using Excel is key here. 
  • Experience with managing and completing projects.
  • Previous experience or knowledge in working with or within supply chain operations.
  • Must be fluent in Romanian and English (written and spoken).
