What you'll be doing day to day

You'll lead the transformation on modernizing the tools our coworkers use to fulfill customers’ orders in stores, this is critical to the growth of IKEA! You'll build end-to-end solutions starting from the React web interfaces, through the Java Spring Boot middle layers, and down to the infrastructure, databases, or other integrations necessary to complete the task at hand. You'll make decisions surrounding how the software architecture design is implemented, how the solutions are deployed to its users, how an automation strategy can be installed, and how these experiences can be standardized for other related use cases. Your expertise and knowledge will drive the products forward and support other engineers working on related tasks.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
• Responsible for developing, running, monitoring and supporting software for the assigned Product or Service using the right toolsets required
• You'll take the lead with discovery of what's possible with our systems and set the ground work for the team to tackle projects.
• Collaborate with a variety of coworkers all over the world, mainly our teams in Sweden and Amsterdam.
• Lead and promote good software engineering practices within an agile/iterative development approach in order to improve time to market and fulfill business needs
• Onboard, coach and mentor engineers in order to secure transfer of competence and a high performing team
• Design and educate other engineers in ways of working, encouraging good practices to meet consumer expectations on Product or Service delivery
• Development of high quality (software) code which has been tested and is ready to be shipped applying and using good practices and agreed standards
• Apply and adhere to good practice software engineering practices (e.g. DRY principles, TDD and BDD, continuous integration, automated tests, pair programming, code reviews) within an agile/iterative development approach including validation and verification testing
• Ensure good understanding of each user story and the expected outcome, asking for further detail when required
• Contributing to the continuous development of standards against which software development should take place as well as exploring and bring in new technologies to boost innovation and development productivity

• Formal qualifications in computer science, software engineering, or any engineering equivalent
• Minimum 7 years of professional experience as software engineer with similar level of experience in the specific tech stack for the area
• Minimum 5 years' experience of working in agile/iterative software development teams with a DevOps working setup and with an emphasis on self-organization and delivery to agreed commitment
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
• Willing to learn Java Spring Boot
• Demonstrable experience with React, Redux, HTML5, and CSS
• Experience with any major Relational Database (RDBMS) (MySql, Postgres, SQL Server, Oracle)
• Strong knowledge of RESTful API principles
• NICE TO HAVE: Experience with Java Spring Boot

Working in a collaborative environment using Agile methodologies, the Technology team has the critical role of engineering solutions for the store and online, both internal and customer-facing. Working in partnership with our Product team, the Technology team contributes to organizational success by improving the customer journey and contributing to the better everyday life of the many people.

This specific role reports directly to the Product Engineering Domain Manager (Fulfillment). The current team is comprised of software engineers, test engineers, a UX designer/specialist, a data analyst, and a product owner. This role will communicate with users, experience designers, and functional stakeholders to ensure solutions are implemented properly and best serve its users. Co-workers may be displaced between the Philadelphia area, the entire US country store network, Sweden, and Amsterdam.
